FULL TRANSPARENCY
As a brand, Wise Wolf work hard to ensure that our glass bottle, our cap, label and outer case are made using the highest % of recycled material made available by our suppliers, in turn helping us to reduce our impact on the environment. But sometimes market conditions can mean that these percentages can fluctuate based on how much of the recycled material, such as glass, paper and aluminium, is available at the time of production. A good reason for us all to recycle!
HERE'S WHAT GOES INTO OUR BOTTLES:
Our latest glass production run is confirmed to contain a minimum of 91% recycled glass cullet.
The glass plant is in Sydney, where our bottle is made, and the glass is sourced through glass recycling schemes. This means that the % of recycled glass that goes into our bottles is dependent on the amount of clean, uncontaminated glass that is available to the specific plant, from the surrounding state.
Our label is printed on 100% Bagasse, which is the fibrous pulp that is left behind during the crushing of sugarcane in the harvesting process. This material is renewable and is wood free. The backing material that these labels are supplied to us on is made of PET and is also 100% recyclable
We have opted to go with a shorter screw cap than your standard wine cap, with the aim of using less materials than is necessary. The result is that our cap uses 26% less aluminium than a standard industry screwcap.
Our outer carton which holds 6 bottles, is made using approximately 100% recycled paper pulp. Much like with our screw caps, there can be slight variations in the batch to batch sourcing of raw materials which is why we have to say ‘approximately’. The brown board used comes from paper mills that are FSC® Chain-of-custody certified (SCS-COC-002636)
WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON
We’re on a journey with our packaging. It’s not perfect yet, but we never settle and we’re always trying to do better. The following elements are not made from recycled material. Read on to learn more about what we’re still working through.
Our bottle is made using 91% recycled glass cullet but we use some raw materials such as silica sand, soda ash and limestone and this is currently unavoidable in turning recycled glass into bottles.
The glue used for the labels and boxes is a water-based adhesive.
The food contact liner in our screwcap is saranex, this is a polylaminated virgin plastic material specifically engineered to ensure wine quality that is widely used in the industry. Unfortunately, a version created from recycled materials has not yet been developed to existing safety, quality and hygiene standards; as technology advances, we hope to change this in the future.
